Ideas
for Star Trek Stories
Do
I like Star Trek? Hmm….could be! So, here are some ideas for Star Trek
stories. As always, these ideas are in
the “What if…” format – that is, add the phrase “what if” in front of every
idea. Enjoy!
(In ST universe) A crew got thrown into the future? What would it be like, and how would they
get back? Can they change the future,
or is it really fixed (that would be a good discussion for those in the
future)?
(In Star Trek:TOS) Something flew out of the black hole
the Enterprise was studying?
(In ST:TOS) The Enterprise comes upon a Federation
ghost-ship, and finds that all is not well?
(In any fictional universe) You created an unbeatable
opponent? Now, beat it.
(In ST:TOS) Just after renegade Vulcans settled ch=Rihannsu, a splinter group
left to return to Vulcan in suspended animation? What if they were lost, but had just been found by the
Enterprise?
(In ST:whichever) The crew is thrown back to Victorian
England times, where a 25th century enemy is playing the part of
Jack the Ripper?
(In ST Universe) You were living in a holodeck. What if you didn=t know? Why would you be kept there? Who would be doing it?
(In ST:TOS or TNG) Crews could send someone to
participate in a contest/conference between ships? What could come up at this?
(In ST:TOS) The Enterprise finds the gateway to the
multiverse; now, can it find its way back home? Call it, AAll
Possible Worlds@.
(In ST:DS9) A person in cryogenic suspension from the 20th
Century awakes to find themselves alone on the station?
(In ST, any one) The crew finds an abandoned Federation
ship where the computer has a mind of its own?
(In ST:TOS) A group of Klingon commandoes hijacked the Enterprise
and took it into Klingon space?
(In ST:any) you dealt with the ambassadors to belligerent
states (Klingons, Romulans, etc.)? How
could they be worked into a story without them looking like pompous buffoons?
(In ST:DSN), Sisko woke one morning and found the station
empty? What could have caused that, and
what can he do about it?
(In ST:DSN) The Borg encounted the Founders and the Jem
Hadar?
(In ST:TNG) The entity created by the Enterprise
returned?
(In ST) V=ger
returned? What would it be like? What would it want to do?
(In ST:V) Seven of Nine was sent on an away mission and
was brought in contact with a living computer that wanted to join with her
because of her peculiar mental structure?
(In ST:V) Kes returned?
What would she be like, and what would she do? (Yes, I know it=s
been done on the show, but let=s
look beyond that.)
(In ST:TOS) McCoy was transferred off the Enterprise by
Starfleet Medical?
(In ST Universe) A ship=s captain (or any other crewman) went insane?
(In ST:TOS) Kirk was kidnapped? Why? What if he was
convinced that the Enterprise had been blown up?
(In ST:TNG) There was something more powerful than the Q,
the Therizons? A Therizon arrives to
help the Enterprise through a dangerous and potentially universe-destroying
warp engine test, of course with no help form the Q.
(In ST:TNG or ST:V) You wrote a novel about the
Preservers?
(In ST:DS9) You found a story where the DS9 crew faces a
Prime Directive violation?
(In ST:V) Someone began changing the Doctor=s programming? Who, and why? How is the Doctor acting?
(In DS9) Benjamin Sisko went insane, but was cured by the
wormhole entities?
(In ST:TOS) The ship is infected, and no one can
leave? What if it has some weird type
of radiation that does not allow any contact, even though it is keeping the
crew alive in some weird way? How does
the crew get out of this one? What
happens when a job comes up that only the Enterprise can do? Then again, I guess it would be a good
weapon.
(In ST:TOS) Sulu was framed for murder on the
Enterprise? By whom, and how does he
get out of it? Is he just a random
target, or does someone have an agenda?
(In ST:TNG) Everything Picard does in a situation will
violate the Prime Directive? What does
he end up doing?
(In ST:TOS) A Starfleet officer was stranded on a planet
that was about to perfect subspace communications, and he signed on as a
scientist to help, then used it to send a distress message? Did he violate the Prime Directive or
not? What would Kirk and Starfleet do
about it?
(In ST:TNG) A sun was about to go nova, which would
destroy a Aprimitive@ but populated planet? Does Picard obey the Prime Directive, or
does he save the planet?
(In ST:DS9) The Federation=s secret service (a nominally
intelligence-gathering agency) had a shape-shifter working for them?
(In ST:TNG) The Q were dying? What would be causing this?
How can the Enterprise change this?
(In ST:TOS) A starship crew had been lost in the past,
and had had to stay there? What would
their lives have been like, and what effect would their messages have on those
they left behind?
(In ST:TOS) One by one members of the crew began
disappearing, until only Kirk and an ensign were left?
(In ST:TOS) The Enterprise was trapped in a warp-tunnel,
where they could not drop out of warp speed?
How would they get out, and how would they get home?
(In ST:TOS?) You could see what the Federation would be
like 500 years in the future? How would
it be different?
(In ST:TOS) the crew of the Enterprise was put on a
different ship for a mission while the Enterprise was on a three-month refit
after it=s
first five-year mission? What would the
mission be, and what would the ship be like?
Why them, and not a ship with a crew already on board?
(In ST:TNG) Data grew so old that he decided to terminate
himself? Would he leave behind
"children" of some description?
What other legacy might he leave?
Why would be factors causing him to do this?
(In ST Universe) Earth isn=t the squeaky clean place it=s made out to be? And ditch the idea about not using money.
(In ST Universe) You followed the lives of a group of
Klingon (or other) mercenaries?
A terrorist put a bomb on the Enterprise as a protest of
Federation policy?
The sun began to quickly die? What if we found it was about to go nova (or turn into a black
hole)? What would we do? What could we do? What if this was in the D.C. Universe (or Marvel, or ST)?
There were a
group of immortals (not from AHighlander@) loose in the Star Trek
universe? What if they hid the fact
from others? What if they were from the
AHighlander@ story line?
You were a special person, gifted with strange mental
powers, and you were an orphan? How
would you go about finding your parents?
What if this was set in the D.C. Universe? Heaven forbid, what if it was set in the Marvel Universe? What if it was set in the Star Trek
Universe?
You did a Magnificent Seven story in the Star Trek
universe? Or in Marvel or D.C.?
You wrote a Star Trek trilogy?
