Ideas
for Comic Book Stories
Yep,
I love comic books; you should see the stacks of graphic novels that litter the
apartment. So, here are some ideas for
comic books. As always, these ideas are
in the “What if…” format – that is, add the phrase “what if” in front of every
idea. Enjoy!
(in DC Universe) Superman had landed in the USSR?
(in DC Universe) There was an X-Men (or Avengers)/JLA
crossover?
(in DC Universe) You Aretold@
Batman stories from the 1930's-40's?
(in Marvel Universe) you were the most powerful mutant,
able to anything (seemingly) with your mind, and you realized the danger you
represented? I posit that, having a
conscience, you would become a hermit in some desert.
(in DC Universe) Batman was given the opportunity to
prevent his parents=
deaths?
(in DC Universe)
Batman was forced to call on Wally West to help find a mysterious serial
killer?
(in DC Universe) Batman and his cohorts had to use the
Kryptonite ring to stop a berserk Superman?
(in DC Universe) Superman had to take up the mantle of
Batman for a time?
(in DC Universe) You wrote a Batman story with the
Russian mafia, or, ABatman
in Leningrad@?
(in Marvel Universe) You were a mutant whose ability was
to cause either pain or pleasure?
(in Marvel Universe) You were a mutant whose ability was
to stop any person from feeling any physical sensation? Or emotions?
(In DC Universe) There was a true significance to the ALL@ names that appear in
Superman=s
life?
(In DC Universe)
Lois Lane got Superman=s
powers? What if the same happened to
Bruce Wayne, Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olson, or any other figure in the DC Universe?
(In DC Universe) Bruce Wayne was made acting police commissioner? Definitely an AElseworlds@ story.
(In DC Universe) A band of Kryptonian mercenaries landed
on earth? What if they sold their
services to the highest bidder?
(In the Marvel Universe) a mutant=s ability was to be
invulnerable to everything, but that=s it?
You couldn=t
be crushed, cut, shot, zapped, or mind-probed.
But, you had no Aoffensive@ capabilities. What would you do?
(In DC Universe) Clark Kent decided not to become
Superman?
(In DC Universe)
Superman became more powerful, and finally the dictum power corrupts and
absolute power corrupts absolutely came true?
What would that be like, and how could he be stopped?
(In DC Universe) Batman abandoned Gotham City?
(In DC Universe) Superman got amnesia?
(In DC Universe) You put Batman in the future, as in ABatman 3000"? What if that involved putting Batman in
space?
(In the Marvel Universe) the Punisher became a mutant?
(In DC Universe) Superman had as an infant landed near a
pioneer family in America=s
period of expansion? He could be a
pioneer, a mountain man, or something like that. What if he had been adopted by a Native American tribe?
(In Marvel Universe) Your mutant power was to give to
someone else indomitable will?
(In DC or Marvel Universe) An alien group was silently
infiltrating and invading the planet?
What if this was in some other fictional universe?
(In DC Universe) All the Aold@
heros banded together for one last crusade against evil?
(In D.C. Universe) Batman was kidnaped and held for
ransom? What if the same thing somehow
happened to Superman (especially in his Clark Kent guise)?
(In DC Universe) Superman decided to give up his
powers? What if he could actually give
them to someone else? Who would he give
them to?
(In DC Universe) Superman mutated?
(In the D.C. Universe) Batman acquired superpowers? Could he continue the fight against crime,
or would the temptation to misuse his power be too great? What kind of powers could he or should he
acquire? Would he force himself to
retire? Could he resist the call to
clean up Gotham?
(In DC Universe) All evil was finally abolished? What would happen to the meta-humans?
(In DC Universe) Batman turned out to be a super-human,
after all?
(In DC Universe) There had never been a Batman? What would Gotham City, and the rest of the
DC Universe, be like?
(In DC Universe) Gotham City was finally rid of really
big crime? What would Batman do?
(In DC Universe) There were no metahumans? What if all-of-the-sudden there they were?
(In DC Universe) Superman and Batman changed places for a
week?
(In any fictional universe) You created an unbeatable
opponent? Now, beat it.
(In the Marvel Universe) Ben Grimm (the Thing) was
elected President?
(In DC Universe)
Superman had to team with Oracle?
(In DC Universe) Bruce Wayne went broke? Could it be some sort of a plot? Perhaps someone has figured out that Bruce
Wayne is Batman, and is attacking him through Wayne Enterprises. Managing to destroy him financially is one
good way to start.
(In DC Universe) The timeline was altered in the past
(Victorian England, revolutionary Russia, World War II, Civil War, etc.), and
the JLA has to get everything back on track?
You could get around the World War II problem by having whoever is
sending these guys out giving them a way to get around the mystic shield used
by the Axis forces.
(In DC Universe) A metahuman went insane?
(In DC Universe) What if there was a Acrisis@ that brought not multiple
heros from the multiverse, but multiple villains?
(In Marvel Universe)
The X-Men are given a chance to once and for all set everything right, a
complete retcon of the entire universe?
Can they do it? Should they do
it? (Not like the way DC did it, but
better.)
(In DC Universe) Someone suddenly gained the powers of
Superman? Is it permanent or
temporary? What does he do with it?
(In DC Universe) You ran a series, ASuperman in Space@? To make it interesting, it could be set at a time after Lois Lane
has died. Superman leaves to Earth in
the hands of other superheros, and goes out to see what=s out there.
(In DC Universe) The Linear Men go berserk, and starting
making radical changes in the time-line?
What is causing this, and how can it be stopped? What if this results in the creation of a
new multiverse?
(In DC Universe) Flash and Superman had to race?
A DC hero was trapped in the Marvel universe (or vice
versa)?
Batman needed Superman=s help?
What kind of storyline could be generated? What if the situations were reversed? Of course, we can all see the Man of Steel needing the Dark Night
Detective. I=ve always thought DC=s AWorld=s Finest@ concept was one of their
better ideas.
In a world that has Superman, you suddenly found yourself
in possession of the same abilities?
How would you and he react to this?
What would you do? Would you
want to keep this or get rid of it?
The sun began to quickly die? What if we found it was about to go nova (or turn into a black
hole)? What would we do? What could we do? What if this was in the D.C. Universe (or Marvel, or ST)?
There was a true Marvel/DC crossover, with the heros
meeting in a third, separate universe?
Would Superman emerge as the leader?
The only real choice from Marvel is Reed Richards (or Captain America).
There were a group of people (in the Marvel Universe) who
saw mutants as, well, gods, and worshiped them? Why are these mutants not constantly badgered by those who need
(or want) help? Storm, for instance,
would make an interesting Atarget@ for a drought-stricken
Kansas farmer. A demolitions expert
might find a sudden need for a Cyclops or a Havok. How would our heroes react to this?
You wrote a superhero story (say, Superman) in a first
person point of view?
You were a special person, gifted with strange mental
powers, and you were an orphan? How
would you go about finding your parents?
What if this was set in the D.C. Universe? Heaven forbid, what if it was set in the Marvel Universe? What if it was set in the Star Trek
Universe?
You did a Magnificent Seven story in the Star Trek universe? Or in Marvel or D.C.?
You had to redo the Superman origin as a motion picture?
You were a shapeshifter?
What would life be like in the Star Trek universe (or any other
fictional world)? What questions of
morality and ethics would this person have to deal with?
